Character Information

General
Canon Source: Recettear: An Item Shop's Tale
Canon Format: PC Video Game
Character's Name: Recette Lemongrass
Character's Age: 13. She's small for her age.
Conditional: If your character is 13 years of age or under, please clarify how they will be played. Recette might not be the sharpest tack, but she can be responsible when she tries. I am hoping to find someone that doesn't mind employing a younger character in some form. Since a friend of hers is being apped this month as well, the two of them will band together for great justice.
What form will your character's NV take? It appears to be a red book, with the words 'Recette's NV!!' and a crudely drawn, smiling Recette face on the cover. Inside is all the electronic bits.

Abilities
Character's Canon Abilities: Being lovable. No, not really. She has no special abilities in canon. She shows talent with arts and crafts, but being able to build her own sign for her shop is hardly a high level talent.
Conditional: If your character has no superhuman canon abilities, what dormant ability will you give them? The ability to find things. When she uses this ability, she mentally decides on what she is looking for, and a sort of sixth sense nudges her in the right direction to finding it. Like a little voice nagging at her in her head, she can just feel it if she heads in the right direction. This does not offer the specifics of where it is, merely a direction for her to head in. The item that she is trying to find can be something broad, or it can be extremely specific. She can try to find 'the tv remote' or 'the closest candy store' or even something as vague as 'something valuable no one else has found yet'. The more specific the search is, the more powerful the feelings guiding her are, making it easier to find something she already knows about. She can only find tangible things like this, she can't look for something like 'the truth' or 'true love' or anything like that. Once she touches the object she's searching for, she knows that it is the target of her search. If more then one object might qualify to be found by this ability, she is only lead to the closest one. Lastly, if using this ability to search for an intelligent creature, the less they want to be found, the harder it is for her, basically letting other players consent out of having her automatically find them if they don't want to be found.

History/Personality/Plans/etc.
Character History: Recettear does not delve too deeply into its characters pasts. Much like Recette herself, it is firmly in the here and now, with not a whole lot of pre-game information for most of its characters.

Recette was born in a town known as Pensee, and lived there with her father. The fate of her mother is never revealed. As she grew, she came to know the people in the town, and became a familiar face to them as well. Her life was filled with cheer. Everything changed one day, however, when her father decided to go off on an adventure, leaving his by then teenage daughter behind to tend to house while he was gone. Recette was left alone for months, waking up to an empty house and returning to one every evening. It was a little lonesome. It was a few months after he left that the biggest change came to her life.

That change was the arrival of a little fairy by the name of Tear. She declared herself an agent of the Terme Financial Company, and that her father had taken out a large loan to pay for the gear he used on the grand adventure her never returned from. With no father, and no mother, she was the eldest member of the household, and thus it was up to her to pay off the loan, else her home be seized as compensation. Needless to say, she didn't want that! But she hardly had the amount of money she was being asked for. Tear, however, wasn't heartless. She offered the girl an idea she likely wouldn't have come up with herself. There were many adventures that went through Pensee, and some that called it home. As her father had needed provisions for his journey, so too would others for theirs.

With that suggestion, the young girl promptly opened her own shop, named for herself and the fairy that was helping her avoid living on the streets, 'Recettear'. Over the next month, she worked her little fanny off, getting to know the people of Pensee, learning how to talk to customers, and also befriending local adventurers who would be willing to be hired to take a girl and a fairy into the wilderness to search for valuables for the shop. Over that month she made numerous new friends and grew to appreciate the companionship of Tear. Within one month she had amassed a small fortune, one million pix (pix being the local currency) and given it all away to pay for a debt that wasn't even her fault. She didn't mind, though. Thanks to that debt, she'd found a way to make sure her days weren't lonely ever again. Even after the debt was paid off, she kept her store open. It wasn't about profit. Because despite the fact her father hadn't returned, she'd found her own way to live a life of adventure.

Point in Canon: After paying off her debt and not spending every week wondering if it was going to be the week she became homeless.
Conditional: Brief summary of previous RP history: N/A

Character Personality: Laid back and carefree are the two best ways to describe Recette. Perhaps it is just because of her youth, but she coasts through life, seeming to always live in the moment. Planning far ahead is a rare occasion for her, and she tends to only do it for important things. She might, for instance, plan a gift for a friend's birthday, and then in the same day forget to buy food for dinner the next night. She's a little scatterbrained, and occasionally forgetful, at least when it comes to things that she considers unimportant. Despite the fact that she, in her home world, ran a shop, she completely forgets to keep track of her inventory and her ledgers collect dust, forgotten as boring pieces of paper. This isn't because she is stupid exactly, it is that she doesn't see becoming wealthy as important. Her shop was a means to an end, mainly not becoming homeless. And if she wasn't homeless, everything was totally awesome! So who cares about boring sheets of paper? Certainly not Recette Lemongrass! On the other hand, friends are something much more important, so forgetting a friend's birthday would be awful! Much more awful then having someone embezzling her money.

Of course this is not to say that she would just let such a thing keep happening if she found out about it. Finding someone that actually LIKES being robbed is rare, and just because she is sort of laid back, that doesn't make her an exception to that rule! However, she would easily forgive someone that tried to rob her, and actually does so in her canon. This is because she just doesn't hold grudges. One has to do something intensely awful for her to really hold it against someone. Trying to take her shinies isn't enough, you have to do something like blow up half the world, then she MIGHT not like you.

She always tries to look for the bright side, all the time. When she was told that her house would be taken if she couldn't make huge amounts of money within a month, the first thing that she thought wasn't 'oh no, I'm doooooooooooomed!' but instead 'running a shop sounds like it might be fun!' Trying to keep the bright side in mind all the time leads her to have a naturally cheery personality, and as long as you aren't doing bad things when she meets you or she doesn't know of bad things you've done, she already likes you. Yes, you.

Of course this personality sounds all bright and shiny, but she isn't without her flaws. The biggest one being that, since she thinks everyone is great, she is more then a little naive with the way she deals with others. She is intensely easy to trick by people who are good at pretending to be better people then they are, and whats worse, her love of her friends might lead her to want to defend them if anyone ever said anything bad about such a person. Finding out that her niceness had been used like that would be like reaching into her chest, removing her heart, and stomping all over it while wearing boots made of cement and pain.

When she is speaking with friends, and as previously stated, it isn't hard to get her to think of you that way, she can be a bit playful. She likes to tease people, but never in a mean way. She is far too concerned about other people's feelings to be cruel. In fact, being cruel to her friends is one of the only ways to get her actually angry. In canon, there is someone that was being insulting towards Tear, a close friend of hers, and she actually snapped at the person in question. It is one of the only times she's shown angry. On the other hand, insulting her wouldn't make her angry at all. Like water off a duck's backs, insults tend to slide right off of her. This may be in part to her simply not understanding them. A mind like hers just simply doesn't understand the desire to insult someone. Why do that, when you could be nice instead? No one likes a meanie-face, after all! This thought process leads her to being able to tolerate people that others might normally find grating. She either just doesn't get or doesn't care that she is being looked down upon.

She doesn't like being lonely. As she's very social, being alone is the worst thing ever. Thankfully for her, her kind-hearted personality leads her to, in the words of one of the game's characters 'have a way of making people care'. It is easy to care about her, unless you're totally heartless, because she cares about you. Probably.

Oh, and she likes to make up her own words. Yayifications!

Conditional: Personality development in previous game: N/A
Character Plans: Recettear is a lighthearted game and while I understand that not everything here is going to be all bubblegum and happy thoughts, I want to have her involved in as much lighthearted RP as I can manage. I fully intend to have her eventually try to open a shop of some sort in the port. What type of shop depends on the type of people she meets. Once she learns of her ability she will add 'Recette's find that thingy you lost' service to the list of things her shop sells.

[A sleepy eyed young girl with short brown hair appears rubs her eyes as she stares blankly at the video recorder.]

Tear, its too early to be awake. Its not even noon yet, why should I...waah!

[She looks confused for a moment, leaning over to peer intently at her NV.]

Yep, that isn't Tear all right. Last I checked, she looked more fairyish and not so much machiney. Must of just been a dream. Oh, but last time I thought it was a dream it totally wasn't! What am I going to have to do this time? I'm no good at saving the world, I better not have to do that!

[There's several moments silence, as if she were waiting for something.]

....Isn't this the part where life-changing stuff is supposed to hap..oh wait, it really WAS a dream this time. And whats this little red button doing, being all red like that?

[She reaches for something outside the NV's visual range, and suddenly the feed comes to an end. Before it fades entirely, one last thing is heard.]

That means I get to go back to sleep. Forward to sleeping!

Third Person Sample

She was lucky she had got anything at all, but Recette was hardly satisfied with the state of her new shop. Recettear had been atop a hill, in plain sight for everyone in town to see. Recettear MK II: Even Better Edition as she'd decided to call her new shop was a little hole in the way surrounded in other shops. The only reason her place even stood out was because of the manager and, for most people, that wasn't enough to come to her over other places. In her time in the port she'd managed to make a few friends and a few contacts that could help her get her shelves stocked, but she was barely keeping herself out of the poor house with so much competition!

Still, despite this dissatisaction she was still happy. It might be a tiny place, but it let her do what she loved best and the fact that she was dirt poor didn't even matter. This day was much like any other. She was the place's only employee, and it was up to stock her shelves. She'd managed to get her hands on some nice, shiny, red apples which she was proudly placing within eyesight of the store's entrance. Off to one side was canned vegetables. On the other wall hung a sword as well as a quiver of arrows. Variety was one thing that Recettear MK II: Even Better Edition did not lack in. Finally, after it seemed like the day would be devoid of business, a customer came through the door. They found themselves greeted with a warm and kind smile from the store's young proprietor.

"Welcome to Recettear!"
